Communication statuses
What each communication status on source data and target data means, and what to do about it.
Every piece of source data and target data has a communication status. It tells you whether data actually arrived in Supply Lens, or was actually delivered to the other system. Whether it was processed is a separate question, answered by the Document status.
At a glance
- ReceivedSource data only. The data has been received into Supply Lens.
- PendingTarget data only. Waiting to be sent; it will be picked up and sent at the next available opportunity.
- In progressTarget data only. Being sent right now.
- SentThe target data was sent successfully.
- FailedThe target data failed to send. In rare edge cases, source data can also show Failed.
- CancelledTarget data that already existed for the same source reference. Created but not sent, as a fail-safe against duplicates.
- HeldNot currently in use.

What to do about each status
| Status | Do you need to act? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Received | No | The data arrived. If something is wrong, look at the Document status next. |
Pending | Only if it can't wait | It goes at the next opportunity, which may be the Integration's next scheduled run. To send it now, run the Integration manually. See Run an Integration manually. |
In progress | No | Wait a moment. |
Sent | No | Supply Lens delivered it. If the receiving system still can't find it, the cause is likely on their side; use the target data as evidence of exactly what was sent. See Fix a Document not reaching its target. |
Failed | Yes | There are many possible reasons. Open the target data's Logs to find out why, for example a connection or authentication problem, or the receiving system rejecting the data. |
Cancelled | Only if you meant to send it | A duplicate was stopped. To send again on purpose, cancel the existing target data and reprocess. See Resend a Document. |
Held | No | Not currently in use. |
More about each status
Received
Appears only on source data, to show it has been received. The column exists for rare edge cases
where source data was created but then suffered a failure during communication, for example a
transient network problem. In that case it shows Failed instead.
Pending
Appears only on target data that is waiting to be sent. It will be picked up and sent at the next available opportunity.
In progress
Appears only on target data that is being sent right now.
Sent
The target data was sent successfully.
Failed
The target data failed to send. Errors can have many causes, so check the logs to find out more.
Cancelled
When source data is processed, Supply Lens reads its Reference value and checks whether target data
already exists with its Source Reference set to the same value. If it does, Supply Lens still creates
the new target data, but sets its communication status to Cancelled.
This is a fail-safe against accidental duplication when people reprocess source data. It also lets you adjust, test and reprocess source data quickly without fear of creating target data again.
Held
Not currently in use. It may be used in future, building on an existing mechanism in the platform that can hold target data automatically.
One Document, several destinations
If a Document goes to more than one Integration, it has a separate piece of target data for each, each
with its own communication status. The target data on a Document shows which Integration each record
was sent to, with its logo, name and key, so one can be Sent while another is Failed.
