Supply Lens

Communication statuses

Lesson 7 of 17 6 min read

Communication statuses tell you whether source data arrived safely and whether target data was actually delivered.

A Complete Document means Supply Lens did its processing. Whether the result actually reached the other system is a separate question, answered by the communication status on source data and target data. In this lesson you will learn each communication status and what to do when you see it.

The statuses

  • ReceivedSource data only. The data has arrived in Supply Lens.
  • PendingTarget data only. Waiting to be sent; it will be picked up at the next available opportunity.
  • In progressTarget data only. Being sent right now.
  • SentThe target data was sent successfully.
  • FailedThe target data failed to send. Check the logs to find out why. In rare cases source data can also show Failed, for example after a transient network problem.
  • CancelledSet automatically when Supply Lens detects that target data with the same source reference already exists. A fail-safe against duplicates.
  • HeldDescribed in the help centre as not currently in use.

The journey of a piece of target data

What each one means for you

  • Sent is the answer to "did it go?". If the receiving system still cannot find it, the problem is likely on their side, for example a filter or import rule in that system. Use the target data itself as evidence of exactly what was delivered.
  • Pending means it is queued. Target data is sent at the next opportunity, which may be the Integration's next scheduled run. If you need it now, run the Integration's Run send.
  • Failed needs attention. Open the target data's Logs. Common causes are a connection or authentication problem with the target Integration, or the receiving system rejecting the data.
  • Cancelled usually means Supply Lens prevented a duplicate. The next lesson explains this in detail.

One Document, several destinations

If a Document goes to more than one Integration, it has one piece of target data for each, each with its own communication status. The target data on a Document shows which Integration each record was sent to, with its logo, name and key. One can be Sent while another is Failed.

It says Pending

At 9:05 Sam sees target data for Northgate sitting at Pending. The Northgate Integration runs every 30 minutes and last ran at 9:00, so it will go at 9:30. As the customer has asked for a same-day despatch, Priya runs Run send on the Northgate Integration and the status moves to In progress and then Sent.

Recap

  • Received is for source data; Pending, In progress and Sent track target data being delivered.
  • Sent is your proof that Supply Lens delivered the data.
  • Pending waits for the next send; use Run send if it cannot wait.
  • Failed needs the logs; Cancelled is usually duplicate protection at work.
  • Each destination has its own target data and its own communication status.
