Run an Integration manually
Lesson 12 of 17 5 min read
Trigger an immediate send or receive outside the normal schedule, and know which button to press.
Most Integrations run on a schedule or receive data by webhook, so you rarely need to think about them. But sometimes you cannot wait: a customer needs a same-day despatch, or you have just fixed a problem and want to see it go through. In this lesson you will learn to run an Integration on demand and choose the right operation.
Send, receive or both
Directions are always from Supply Lens's point of view:
| Operation | What it does | Use it when... |
|---|---|---|
| Run receive | Collects new data from the system into Supply Lens. | You expect new orders, stock levels or shipments from that system and do not want to wait. |
| Run send | Delivers anything waiting (for example Pending target data) to the system. | Target data is queued for that Integration and needs to go now. |
| Run send & receive | Does both. | You are not sure, or you want everything up to date. |
Run it
- Go to Settings → Integration setup → Integrations.
- Click the Integration you want to run.
- In the Manual Operation card, choose Run send & receive, Run send or Run receive.
Check the schedule first
The Integrations list shows whether each Integration runs on a schedule and when it next runs, and whether it has webhooks set up. If the next run is in two minutes, you may not need to run it by hand.
Did it work?
A manual run is a communications session: Supply Lens talking to the other system. The menu has a list of communications sessions for your Organisation. Select a session to see its logs, which is the place to look if a manual run seems to do nothing.
Manual runs do not bypass a disabled Integration
If an Integration's Activation is set to Disabled, no data is sent or received on it. Check it is enabled before assuming a run has failed.
A same-day despatch
A café customer rings at 11:40 needing beans today. Their order is Complete in Supply Lens
and the target data for Northgate is Pending; the next scheduled send is at 12:00, after
Northgate's 11:45 cut-off. Priya opens the Northgate Integration and clicks Run send. The
target data moves to Sent and Northgate picks the order in time.
Recap
- Run receive pulls new data in, Run send pushes waiting data out, Run send & receive does both.
- Find the buttons in the Manual Operation card on the Integration panel.
- Check the Integrations list for the next scheduled run before running by hand.
- A disabled Integration does not send or receive; check the communications session logs if a run seems to do nothing.
