Prices and fulfilment Locations

Lesson 8 of 24 6 min read

Add default and customer-specific prices to a Product, and understand how the default fulfilment Location decides where an order ships from.

Orders from a web shop carry their own prices. Orders from a wholesaler often don't, or carry a price you need to check. And very few orders say which of your warehouses should ship them. In this lesson you will set up the two Product details that fill those gaps: prices and the default fulfilment Location.

Prices

Add a default price

  1. Open Settings → Reference data → Products and open the Product.
  2. In the Prices section, click + to open the Add price window.
  3. Fill in the mandatory fields.
  4. Click SAVE PRICE.
PriceThe cost for this traded unit.
CurrencyThe currency of this price.
Unit of MeasureThe traded unit this price is for, for example a bag or a case.
Customer (Advanced)Leave empty if the price applies to all customers, or pick a customer for a customer-specific price.
From / To (Advanced)Leave empty if the price applies all the time, or set a date range for a time-limited price.

Prices are per unit

Each price belongs to a unit of measure. A bag price and a case price are two separate prices. When an order line arrives, Supply Lens works out the line's unit first and then looks up the price in that unit. That is one more reason to get units right.

Customer-specific and time-limited prices

Use the Advanced section to give one customer their own price, or to run a price for a set period, such as a promotion or a new price list from a date.

A Shopify order already carries its own price, but when Greenleaf orders three cases, the case price for Greenleaf is there to use. The January row lets Priya set up a launch deal in advance.

Good to know

When you edit an order in Supply Lens and set the SKU on a line, the price is looked up and filled in for you from the Product's prices.

Default fulfilment Location

The default fulfilment Location is where a Product ships from if no fulfilment Location is provided otherwise. If an order already names a Location, that wins; if it doesn't, the Product's default fills the gap.

Rendering diagram...

To set it, open the Product and choose a Location in the Default fulfilment location drop-down in the Information section. The Location must already exist.

Splitting stock across sites

If some Products ship from your 3PL and others from your own premises, set each Product's default to match. Orders then carry the right Location without anyone choosing it.

Recap

  • Add prices in a Product's Prices section; each price has an amount, a currency and a unit.
  • Use Advanced for customer-specific prices and for prices that apply between two dates.
  • The line's unit is worked out first, then the price is looked up in that unit.
  • The default fulfilment Location is used only when an order doesn't already say where to ship from.
