Supply Lens

What can flow to and from Unleashed

Lesson 2 of 24 6 min read

The message types an Unleashed Integration supports, and how to read Send and Receive from the Supply Lens point of view.

Before you configure anything, you need a clear picture of which Unleashed records you want Supply Lens to read and which you want it to write. This lesson lists every message type the Unleashed Integration supports and shows you how to read the direction correctly, which is the single most common source of confusion at setup.

Direction is always from Supply Lens' point of view

When you add a configuration to an Integration, you choose Send, Receive or both. Those words describe what Supply Lens does, not what Unleashed does.

  • Send means Supply Lens writes into Unleashed. Orders from your web shop are sent to Unleashed.
  • Receive means Supply Lens reads from Unleashed. Stock on hand is received from Unleashed.

A quick check

Ask "who creates the record in Unleashed?" If Supply Lens creates it, that is Send. If Unleashed already has it and Supply Lens picks it up, that is Receive.

A two-way arrow means the type can be configured in either direction, or both. For example, an Order can be sent into Unleashed (from Shopify) and received out of Unleashed (to send on to a 3PL or an EDI trading partner).

Grouping them by job

It helps to think of these in four families:

  • Selling: Order, Order Change, Order Group, Quote, Invoice, Credit, Shipment, Pick. This is the bulk of most integrations, and the order configuration is where most settings live.
  • Stock: Inventory, Stock Adjustment. Stock on hand typically flows out of Unleashed to your sales channels.
  • Warehousing and purchasing: Warehouse Order, Warehouse Shipment, Goods Inbound, Goods Inbound Receipt, Purchase Order. These connect Unleashed to a 3PL or a purchasing tool.
  • Master data: Product Update, Customer Update, Work Order.

The diagram shows the most common direction for each type. Types marked ↔ in the table can also go the other way.

Hilltop Coffee picks its message types

Hilltop's first phase needs three things: Shopify orders into Unleashed, stock levels out to Shopify, and dispatches back to Shopify. On the Unleashed Integration that means:

  • Order, Send (Supply Lens writes sales orders into Unleashed).
  • Inventory, Receive (Supply Lens reads stock on hand from Unleashed).
  • Shipment, Receive (Supply Lens reads sales shipments from Unleashed and passes them to Shopify).

Phase two will add Warehouse Order and Warehouse Shipment when Hilltop moves its wholesale stock to a 3PL.

Recap

  • Send and Receive are from Supply Lens' point of view: Send writes into Unleashed, Receive reads from it.
  • Eighteen message types are available, covering selling, stock, warehousing and purchasing, and master data.
  • Types marked ↔ can be configured in either direction or both.
  • Start with the minimum set of message types your first phase needs, and add more later.
