How do I add a warehouse, store or delivery point?

Add a Location

Create a Location with its name, owning Party and address, ready to add the codes each system knows it by.

About 3 min

At the end of this guide you will have a Location, such as a warehouse or a customer's depot, that Documents, Products and Mappings can refer to.

Before you start

  • Every Location needs an owning party, so add that Party first. A retailer's depot is owned by the retailer's Party; your own warehouse by your organisation party or your 3PL's Party. See Add a Party.
  • Check the place isn't already a global Location, shared across all organisations. If it is, add your own codes to it rather than creating a copy.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Reference data → Locations.
  2. Click + ADD to open the Add new location window.
  3. Enter the Name and choose the Owning Party. Both are mandatory.
  4. Add a Description, a Type if needed (most Locations can be left as None), and the Address.
  5. Click one of:
    • CREATE to create the Location;
    • CREATE AND EDIT to create it and go on to add identifiers, such as a GLN or the warehouse IDs different systems use.

Good to know

The Sharing option at the top is only available to Supply Lens system administrators, for creating global Locations available to every organisation. For everyone else, the Location is available to the current organisation only.

Check it worked

  • The Location appears in the list on Settings → Reference data → Locations, and in the top-bar search.
  • It can now be chosen as a Product's default fulfilment Location.

If something goes wrong

  • The owning party isn't in the drop-down. Add the Party first.
  • Documents still don't recognise the place. A Location needs the codes systems use for it. See Add a Location identifier.
