Supply Lens

How do I tell Supply Lens how many items are in a case or pack?

Add a unit conversion

Add a conversion to a Product, such as 1 Case = 6 Bag, check it with the Visualise diagram, and optionally set the Product's default unit for one Integration.

About 4 min

At the end of this guide your Product will know how its units relate, for example that one case holds six bags, so quantities in orders resolve correctly.

Before you start

  • Units of Measure must be switched on, and both units must be on your list. See Add Units of Measure.
  • The Product must exist. See Add a Product.
  • Know the real pack size. Confirm it with your warehouse if in doubt.

Steps

Add the conversion

  1. Open Settings → Reference data → Products and click the Edit icon on the Product.
  2. In the Conversions section, click + ADD.
  3. Choose the Single unit at the top: the single containing unit, such as Case. The Single quantity is fixed at 1.
  4. Enter the Multiple quantity and choose the Multiple unit: how many of the smaller, contained unit make up the single unit, such as 6 Bag.
  5. Read it back as a sentence, "1 Case is equivalent to 6 Bag", then click SAVE CONVERSION.

Check it with Visualise

  1. In the Conversions section, click Visualise.
  2. Check the diagram shows your units joined by the right number.
Here, 6 units make up one package.

You can zoom, drag, fit the diagram to the view, and download it as an SVG or PNG image.

Set this Product's default unit for one Integration (optional)

Use this when one Integration trades this Product in a different unit from everyone else. It overrides the Product's own default unit for that Integration.

  1. On the same Product, in the Default Units of Measure section, click + ADD.
  2. Choose the Integration.
  3. Choose the Default unit of measure that Integration should use for this Product.
  4. Click SAVE DEFAULT UNIT OF MEASURE.

Upside-down conversions

"1 Bag is equivalent to 6 Case" is easy to enter by accident and turns an order for three cases into half a bag. Always read the window back as a sentence, and check the diagram.

Check it worked

  • The conversion is listed in the Product's Conversions section and the Visualise diagram looks right.
  • Reprocess an order that failed with "no conversion to this size could be found". It now completes.

If something goes wrong

  • Orders still fail on a pack size. Add a conversion for every pack size partners trade in, not only the one you use internally. See Fix: no conversion to this size.
  • The unit isn't in the drop-down. Add it on the Units of Measure screen first.
  • A line comes out in an unexpected unit. See the order Supply Lens follows in How Supply Lens matches codes.
