How do I turn on and set up units of measure such as cases and pallets?
Add Units of Measure
Switch Units of Measure on for your organisation, add the units you trade in, remove ones you don't, and manage the codes each unit is sent as.
About 4 min
At the end of this guide Units of Measure will be switched on for your organisation, with a short list of the units you and your partners actually trade in.
Before you start
- Decide whether you need Units of Measure. They are off by default. Once configured, Supply Lens adds an extra cross-referencing step to every order it receives. If none of your systems or partners count the same product in different units, leave them off. See Units of Measure explained.
- Plan your conversions before you switch on: once Units of Measure are configured, an order in a pack size with no conversion on the Product will fail.
Steps
Switch Units of Measure on
- Open Settings → Reference data → Units of Measure.
- Click CONFIGURE DEFAULTS.
Add a unit
- On the Units of Measure screen, start typing the unit in the Add unit of measure box.
- Choose it from the drop-down list.
- Click + ADD.
You can add any UN/CEFACT Recommendation 21 code. If the unit you need isn't available, contact Support and they will arrange for it to be added.
Remove a unit
- In the Units of Measure section, click the unit you want to remove.
- Click - REMOVE.
Change the codes a unit is sent as (optional)
- Click the edit button on the unit to open its identifiers.
- Add, edit, delete or reorder your organisation's own identifiers. Shared identifiers, maintained by Supply Lens, are shown but can't be changed.
- To change which code is sent, move the code you want above the others of the same type.
On the way in, your own identifier beats a shared one. On the way out, when a unit has several codes of the same type, the one highest in the order is sent.
Check it worked
- Your units are listed in the Units of Measure section.
- They appear in the unit drop-downs on Products, prices, conversions and Integration defaults.
If something goes wrong
- Orders now fail with "no conversion to this size could be found". A partner ordered in a pack size with no conversion on the Product. See Fix: no conversion to this size and Add a unit conversion.
- A system receives the wrong code for a unit, such as
CASEinstead ofCS. Reorder the unit's identifiers so the code you want comes first. - The unit you need isn't in the list. Contact Support.
