Test your integration
Lesson 12 of 15 8 min read
Run a first end-to-end order, then work through a test plan that covers customers, SKUs, shipping, stock and despatches, and record the results.
Testing is where you find out whether your Business Partner strategy, SKU alignment and settings actually behave the way you planned. This lesson takes you from a first smoke test to a full test plan you can sign off.
Where to test
Use test environments where you have them: a development store for your storefront, and an Enterpryze sandbox or development company if one is available. Where there is no sandbox, use a small, controlled set of real orders and agree up front how they will be marked and cleaned up.
The first end-to-end test
- Set the Enterpryze Integration's Activation to Enabled.
- Create a test sales order in a connected source system, for example a test order in your WooCommerce or Shopify store.
- Wait a few minutes, then check Sales → Orders in Supply Lens to see the order has arrived.
- In Enterpryze, confirm the sales order has been created with the correct Business Partner, line items and SKUs.
Do not wait for the schedule
Use the Manual Operation card on the Integration tile to run a send or receive straight away while testing.
To test stock, change an item's stock in Enterpryze, run a receive, and confirm the new level shows in your connected storefront.
The full test plan
One order proves the pipes are connected. A test plan proves your decisions are right. Work through each scenario, and write down the expected result and the actual result.
Orders in
- A standard order creates correctly: all lines, correct quantities and prices.
- A new customer is created or assigned as your Business Partner strategy says.
- A repeat customer is matched to their existing Business Partner, not duplicated.
- An order with several product lines has every line.
- An order with a shipping charge shows the charge as shipping, not as a product.
- An order with a discount is handled as you agreed.
- Tax maps to the correct Enterpryze tax codes.
- The same order sent twice does not create a duplicate.
- An order with an unknown SKU is held with an alert, and nothing partial appears in Enterpryze.
New Business Partners
- New customers land in the right group, with the right price list, account code and payment terms.
- Bill-to and ship-to addresses appear as expected, if you turned addresses on.
Stock out
- A stock change in Enterpryze reaches the channel within the expected time.
- Stock going to zero shows correctly in the channel.
- Stock from excluded warehouses does not appear.
Despatches back
- A despatch in Enterpryze marks the order fulfilled in the channel, with tracking.
- A partial despatch shows as a partial fulfilment.
Invoices, if in scope
- Invoices are reserve or ordinary as configured, and ordinary invoices carry the fallback warehouse.
- Payments are created only for the financial statuses you chose.
Fernhill's test log
Fernhill keeps its test log in a shared spreadsheet with columns for scenario, expected, actual and pass or fail. Two tests fail on the first pass. The repeat-customer test passes, but the discount test shows the discount as a separate line, which the finance team had not expected. They agree that is acceptable and record it as an agreed deviation. The out-of-stock test fails because a gift set was still being counted from the SHOWROOM warehouse. Fernhill corrects includedWarehouseCodes, re-runs the test and it passes.
Sign it off
Before go-live, the test log should show every scenario passed or an agreed workaround, and the people responsible for the business (and your partner, if you have one) should sign it off.
Recap
- Test in development stores and an Enterpryze sandbox where you can, or with a controlled set of marked real orders.
- Start with one end-to-end order: check Supply Lens, then the BP, lines and SKUs in Enterpryze.
- Use Manual Operation to run sends and receives on demand.
- Work through a full plan: customers, lines, shipping, tax, duplicates, unknown SKUs, stock and despatches.
- Record expected and actual results and get sign-off before go-live.
