Test your integration
Lesson 16 of 18 6 min read
Prove each flow end to end with test orders before real customers depend on it.
A quick test order proves the connection works. A proper test plan proves your settings do what you decided they should. In this lesson you'll run both, so you go live knowing how orders, fulfilments and stock will behave.
The quick test
Once the Integration is enabled:
- Create a test order in Shopify.
- Wait a few minutes.
- In Supply Lens, check Sales → Orders.
You should see your test order. If you don't, see the troubleshooting lesson.
A fuller test plan
Use the sample orders you gathered when preparing. For each, follow it through every system and check the details, not just that it arrived.
| Test | What to check |
|---|---|
| A simple paid order | It arrives in Supply Lens and in the back-office system, with the right customer, SKUs, quantities and prices. |
| An order that shouldn't come in (unpaid, or POS if excluded) | It does not arrive. This proves your filters. |
| A discounted order | The discount sits where you chose: in the line price or as an order-level adjustment. |
| An order with a reduced-rate or zero-rated line | Each line gets the right tax code in the back-office system. |
| A multi-location order (if you have more than one location) | You get one Document per fulfilment location. |
| A gift card or custom item (if you sell them) | It's included or skipped, as you set. |
| A B2B order (if you use Shopify B2B) | It lands on the right company and ship-to location. |
| Despatch the simple order | Shopify shows it fulfilled with tracking; the customer gets an email only if notifyCustomer is on. |
| Change stock for one product | Shopify's figure updates; negative stock shows as zero if you turned that on. |
Check the Document, not just the list
Click into each order in Supply Lens and look at the Logs section. It tells you what happened at each step, and it's the first place to look when something isn't right.
When a test order is held
If a test order is held because of a SKU, that's the integration protecting you. Supply Lens holds the Document rather than creating a partial or incorrect order. Use it as a chance to fix the item master before go-live (the troubleshooting lesson walks through it).
Hilltop Coffee's test day
Priya places five test orders using a 100% discount code so no money changes hands. The
order for a mug and beans arrives in Unleashed with the right tax codes. A POS test sale
doesn't arrive, as planned. One order is held: the HC-DECAF-250 variant has no SKU in
Unleashed. She adds it, reprocesses the order and it goes through. She then completes the
shipment in Unleashed and sees the Shopify order marked fulfilled, with the shipping email
in her inbox.
Discount codes and filters
A 100% discounted test order may not have the financial status you expect. Check its
status in Shopify against your financialStatuses list, and if it isn't eligible, use a
real low-value payment instead.
Recap
- The quick test: create a Shopify order and check Sales → Orders a few minutes later.
- A fuller plan tests filters, customers, discounts, tax, splitting, fulfilments and stock.
- Open each Document and read its Logs.
- A held order is a chance to fix SKUs before go-live.
