Manage your Peppol metadata

Lesson 18 of 22 5 min read

Review the accounts and trading partners you store, and upload metadata safely in the Supply Lens Peppol Metadata JSON format without losing what's already there.

Metadata is the foundation that makes your documents predictable: with it in place you can generate invoices quickly and consistently, with less risk of rejection. In this lesson you'll review what's stored and learn the one rule that matters when uploading: an upload replaces everything.

View a summary

Go to Metadata → Summary to see what you currently store. It's split into two sections:

AccountsYour financial accounts, included on messages like invoices so customers know how to pay you.
Trading PartnersThe parties you send data to. Used to fill in the receiver's details on new documents.

Make a habit of checking the summary before a big invoicing run, especially after bank details change.

Upload metadata

If you manage a lot of trading partners or accounts, you can upload metadata as a file in the Supply Lens Peppol Metadata JSON format. The schema is published at peppol.supplylens.co.uk/peppol/metadata/schema.

  1. Go to Metadata → Upload Metadata.
  2. Click Choose file and select your metadata file.
  3. Click Upload.

Uploading overwrites your current metadata

A new upload replaces everything currently stored. It doesn't merge. Always download your current metadata and keep a backup first, then make your changes in a copy of that file.

A safe upload routine

Ashby Joinery changes bank

Ashby moves its business account to a new bank. The office manager downloads the current metadata, saves it as metadata-backup.json, and edits a copy to replace the old account details. She uploads the copy, then opens Metadata → Summary to confirm the new account is there and both trading partners are still listed. Because she kept the backup, a mistake would have been easy to undo.

Recap

  • Metadata → Summary shows your stored Accounts and Trading Partners.
  • Accounts carry your payment details; trading partners fill in receiver details.
  • You can upload metadata in the Supply Lens Peppol Metadata JSON format from Metadata → Upload Metadata.
  • An upload overwrites all current metadata, so download a backup and edit a copy first.
  • Check the summary after every upload.
