Proof of delivery, remittance and inventory messages
Lesson 11 of 22 6 min read
Settings for the messages that come after despatch, such as delivery confirmations and remittances, and for the inventory and sales reports some retailers exchange.
Once the core order-to-invoice flow is running, some retailers add more messages: confirmations of what actually arrived, remittance advices, and stock or sales reports. Each has a small number of settings. This lesson covers them all, so you can recognise them when a retailer's specification asks for one.
Proof of delivery: what actually arrived
A proof of delivery is the retailer's confirmation of what arrived against a despatch. Supply Lens reads it from an EDIFACT RECADV (receiving advice) or a Tradacoms delivery confirmation.
| ignoreProvidedItemsPerUnit | Whether to throw away the items-per-unit value on the message instead of reading it. Off by default. Turn it on only for a partner known to misuse that field. |
|---|---|
| edifact.productIdentifierPriority | The order in which identifier types are tried when reading product codes on a receiving advice line. It only applies when the line carries a seller product code that must be interpreted as another identifier type; a buyer product code or the line item's own code is always read directly. |
Why you would ignore a field the partner sends
The items per unit drives unit of measure resolution: it's how Supply Lens knows how many items are in each case. Some partners don't send a usable pack size there. One repeats the delivered quantity instead, so a delivery of 392 cases arrives claiming 392 items in each case. A value like that stops the line's unit being resolved, so discarding it is better than using it.
Remittance: what the retailer is paying
The Remittance Configuration has no settings beyond the shared EDI base settings.
Remittances arrive over Tradacoms, which has no acknowledgement message, so they can't receive
a functional acknowledgement.
Inventory advice: telling the retailer what you can supply
An inventory advice reports your availability so the retailer can order against it. An inventory Document carries products and quantities but no parties, so who it's from and who it's for are configured here instead of being read from the Document.
| vendorNumber | The vendor number the customer knows you by, sent as the internal vendor number on the advice. |
|---|---|
| vendorName | Your official company name, sent as the vendor on the advice. |
| overrideSenderIdentifier | Overrides the sender identifier on the message. Defaults to the first local party id on the Integration. |
| overrideReceiverIdentifier | Overrides the receiver identifier on the message. Defaults to the first remote party id on the Integration. |
Inventory and sales reports
Some retailers send periodic stock and sales figures back to their suppliers. Both arrive over EDIFACT and each has one setting:
| edifact.productIdentifierPriority (Inventory Report) | Identifier priority for EDIFACT inventory report messages. |
|---|---|
| edifact.productIdentifierPriority (Sales Report) | Identifier priority for EDIFACT sales report messages. |
The complete picture
Northfield Pantry's delivery confirmations
Greenway starts sending a receiving advice after every delivery. The first few fail to resolve
units: on inspection, Greenway's messages put the delivered case count in the items-per-unit
field. The Supply Lens team turns on ignoreProvidedItemsPerUnit for the Proof of Delivery
Configuration, so the misleading value is discarded instead of blocking unit resolution.
Recap
- Proof of delivery comes from an EDIFACT RECADV or a Tradacoms delivery confirmation.
ignoreProvidedItemsPerUnitdiscards a misused pack size so units can still be resolved; leave it off otherwise.- Remittance has no settings of its own.
- The inventory advice has no parties on the Document, so vendor number, name and sender and receiver IDs are configured.
- Inventory and sales reports arrive over EDIFACT and only have the identifier priority setting.
