Set up Business Central
Lesson 23 of 30 6 min read
Import orders, purchase orders and shipments from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, with defaults for supplier and Location on purchase orders.
Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for small and mid-sized businesses. Where it's the system of record, Supply Lens can import three Document types from it: orders, purchase orders and shipments. Those then flow on to warehouses, EDI partners or shops through your Mappings.
By the end of this lesson you'll be able to configure each Business Central Configuration and know when the purchase order defaults are needed.
Shared settings
All three Document types share the familiar pair:
| setupDate | Only documents created on or after this date are imported. Set automatically at first configuration. |
|---|---|
| lastImportDate | The watermark, moved forward after each run. Managed by the system. |
Orders and shipments
The Business Central Order and Shipment Configurations need nothing beyond the shared settings.
Purchase orders
| defaultSupplier | The supplier Party used for purchase orders when the source data doesn't contain explicit supplier information. |
|---|---|
| defaultFulfilmentLocation | The Location assigned to purchase orders imported from Business Central, deciding where the purchase order is expected to be fulfilled. |
Set defaultFulfilmentLocation whenever purchase orders go to a warehouse, so it knows the
goods are coming to it. Set defaultSupplier when Business Central purchase orders may arrive
without a supplier Supply Lens can identify.
Good to know
Business Central spells this setting defaultFulfilmentLocation, with British spelling, unlike
the defaultFulfillmentLocationId you'll see on most other connectors. Copy setting names
exactly from Create Default JSON.
Brightwater Drinks moves to a 3PL
Brightwater Drinks runs Business Central and has moved storage to a 3PL. Supply Lens imports Business Central orders for the 3PL to pick, and purchase orders so the 3PL expects deliveries.
- Order: added with the shared settings only.
- Purchase order:
defaultFulfilmentLocationis the 3PL's Location. Some purchase orders are raised for a single main supplier without the vendor detail Supply Lens needs, so that supplier's Party is set asdefaultSupplier. - Shipment: added with the shared settings, so despatches recorded in Business Central can update the shop.
Recap
- Business Central offers Order, Purchase Order and Shipment imports.
- All three share
setupDateandlastImportDate. - Purchase orders add
defaultSupplieranddefaultFulfilmentLocation. - Copy setting names exactly; Business Central uses British spelling.
