Cin7 Omni orders and shipments
Lesson 12 of 30 7 min read
Create orders in Cin7 Omni with BOM, project and member settings, and import its despatched shipments by stage and member.
With Cin7 Omni, Supply Lens works the other way round from Cin7 Core: it creates orders in Omni, and then imports shipments once Omni has despatched them. That's the classic shape for a merchant who uses Omni to run fulfilment behind one or more sales channels.
By the end of this lesson you'll be able to configure the Cin7 Omni Order and Shipment Configurations and choose stage and member filters that match how the merchant works.
Creating orders in Omni
| loadBoms | Sets the Load BOMs flag on the Omni order. On: bill-of-materials products are expanded into their component parts. Off: BOMs are not expanded. |
|---|---|
| projectName | Optional. A project name to associate with every order Supply Lens creates in Omni. |
| useShipToLocationForMemberId | On: the order's ship-to location decides the Omni member ID. Off: the member ID is decided by other means, such as the customer record. |
A few plain-English notes:
- A BOM (bill of materials) is a product made of other products, such as a gift hamper. Turn
loadBomson if the warehouse needs to pick the components. - projectName is a cheap way to make Supply Lens orders easy to find and report on in Omni, for example "Supply Lens - Faire".
- A member in Omni is the customer or contact the order belongs to.
useShipToLocationForMemberIdsuits businesses where each delivery address is its own member, such as stores in a retail chain.
Importing shipments from Omni
| includeStages | The Omni order stages that are eligible for import as shipments. Default: Dispatched. |
|---|---|
| excludeStages | Stages to skip, even if they would otherwise be imported. |
| includedMemberIds | When set, only shipments for these member IDs are imported. Empty means all members. |
| excludedMemberIds | Member IDs to skip. |
| importDelay | Wait before importing a shipment, so other systems can finish updating it. |
| setupDate / lastImportDate | Go-live cut-off and watermark, managed by the system. |
Tip
The default Dispatched stage is usually right: you want a shipment back only when goods have
actually left. Change it only if the merchant uses a custom stage that means despatched.
Fern & Finch's hamper range on Cin7 Omni
Fern & Finch's sister brand uses Cin7 Omni to fulfil orders from its Faire wholesale channel. Hampers are BOMs.
- Omni Order:
loadBomson so pickers see each component;projectNameset to "Faire wholesale";useShipToLocationForMemberIdoff, because members are matched on the retailer's customer record. - Omni Shipment:
includeStagesleft atDispatched; no member filters, because every Omni order should send a shipment back.
Recap
- Supply Lens creates orders in Cin7 Omni and imports shipments from it.
loadBomsexpands BOM products;projectNametags every created order.useShipToLocationForMemberIdpicks the member from the ship-to location.- Shipments import from the
Dispatchedstage by default, filterable by stage and member.
